The Southern Letterpress

Print St. Pete

It’s been busy here in Florida. In January of 2013, I officially joined Jessica Peterson, a.k.a. Paper Souvenir, as the Co-Owner of The Southern Letterpress. The Southern provides custom letterpress printing and design services, as well as a curated collection of letterpress goods. We specialize in personalized printing with handset type on sustainable paper stock, and our goal is to make letterpress accessible and affordable to our local communities.

As is evidenced by the recent pause in activity on the Flatbed Splendor blog, this new venture has been all-consuming! After months of planning, printing, and searching for a dedicated location, I’m thrilled to announce that we recently found a 1,500-square-foot warehouse studio space for The Southern, located at the border of St. Pete and Gulfport, FL, just south of the beautiful Pinellas Trail. We’re hosting an opening celebration on September 27th, from 6:00-9:00 pm. Join us if you can!

More updates soon… when the party’s over!

Many thanks to the folks at Boxcar Press for their wonderful write-up on Blogxcar!

ILSSA at Length

The 4th Annual ILSSA Festival to Plead for Skills is featured in at Length magazine! Many thanks to Elaine Bleakney and to all participating ILSSA members making it happen!

Upcoming Classes

Take a gander at the schedule of upcoming classes I’ll be teaching at Asheville BookWorks in November! I’m so thrilled to be returning regularly to WNC. In addition, I’m looking forward to a long stay in the spring of 2013, when I’ll be teaching both a four-day class at BookWorks and an eight-week concentration at the Penland School of Crafts.

Day Off

While preparing to attend the first session of the day at the Guild of Book Workers Standards conference in Salt Lake City, I received the following text messages from my husband Lyman.

“Going for it…”

“D. U. N.”

And this is what he chooses to do, first thing, on his precious Saturday morning. I love this man!
